Listening To Albums
I find it with nearly every music album I buy. Normally you know a couple of songs, and buy it to own it and to listen to it. Sometimes I’ll think “hmm” This isn’t that great, or prefer one side of a record, or not hear or enjoy parts of songs.
Listening to albums again for the fourth or fifth time you start to know the songs, pick out little bits, hear and understand the lyrics, you anticipate the music. It gets better. The album exists as a whole, each song a part of it and part of the listening experience. The artist wouldn’t have put it there if it wasn’t meant to be there or a reflection on where they were at that moment.
I think a lot to do with it is the mood you’re in. Sometimes music can complement everything, and sometimes you need silence. People who are addicted to music by way of earphones are probably disasterously detached from the real world.
